- Come in and be evaluated to help us pick the best program for you.
The Tutoring Process
- You will be matched with a tutor.
- You will meet one-on-one or in a small groups.
- You will meet with your tutor once or twice a week in a public
location (such as the Public Library).
- You will practice skills on your own between tutoring sessions.
You Should Know
- Tutors are volunteers who have successfully completed a seven-session
workshop in adult literacy.
- You may be re-tested (not graded) to help plan your program
and check the progress of the LVFC as a whole.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I do not want anyone to know about my tutoring sessions?
Our services are confidential (we don't tell anyone). Your name
will not be printed or used in any way. You will need to tell your
tutor of any special needsfor instance, if you do not want to be
called at home.
What if I do not like my tutor?
If a tutor-student match is not working, we will try to arrange
for a new match. Please call the Director if you have a problem.
What if something comes up and I need to cancel my tutoring
session?
Please let your tutor know if you will not be at your session. You
must call them.
Will I need supplies or books?
No. Your tutor will bring writing and reading materials but if you
want to use your own things you can.

records. Information pertaining to individual tutors and students
is not to be shared with anyone unless prior written consent is
obtained. General statistical information may be released anonymously.
Students and tutors are welcome to share their experience publicly
as long as they do not violate the privacy of other tutors or students.
