LITERACY VOLUNTEER OF FULTON COUNTY IS ... STUDENTS
...adults, 18 and older, who want to develop their reading, writing,
or English speaking skills. They receive FREE, PRIVATE one-on-one
tutoring in adult basic education (Basic Literacy) and English as
a second language (ESOL). Our students decide what skills they want
to improve.

For Work: reading manuals, manifests, tests, forms, applications,
business letters, memos, work related writing, grammar, spelling,
job applications,

For Life: reading newspapers, magazines, literature, journal
writing, letter writing, grammar, spelling, drivers tests, study
skills, medications, GED preparation

For Family: reading to children, homework help, reading/writing
letters to teachers.

For New Immigrants: English conversation, reading, writing,
grammar, spelling, TOFEL preparation
VOLUNTEERS
...people with a love of literacy and learning, and a commitment
to helping others.

Trained Tutors - complete an 18 hour preparation course,
meet 1+ hours a week with each student, set and achieve student
directed goals, participate in continuing education, provide in-service
instruction in areas of expertise

Tutor Trainers - experienced tutors who assist/lead at
tutor training, provide in-service instruction in areas of literacy
expertise

Office Volunteers - maintain the tutor lending library,
provide tutor, student and clerical support.

Board of Directors - Board and committee meetings- long
range planning and advocacy for adult education

Literacy Volunteers

records. Information pertaining to individual tutors and students

Students and tutors are welcome to share their experience publicly
as long as they do not violate the privacy of other tutors or students.
