LITERACY VOLUNTEERS OF FULTON COUNTY
OPENS THE DOORS TO LITERACY

We provide assistance to adults who want to improve their reading, writing, or English speaking skills by providing free, private, one-on-one tutoring in adult basic education (Basic Literacy) and English as a Second Language (ESOL). Possibilities include:
  • Survival Skills (understanding medicine bottles, identifying labels, street signs, etc.)
  • Helping adults to help their children (early childhood reading, assisting with homework, etc.)
  • Improving writing skills related to filling out job applications.
  • Basic Reading (newspapers, magazines, and other literature.
  • Speaking, reading, and/or writing better English.

A few little-known facts:

  • There are at least 8,800 adults in our county whose lack of reading and writing skills limit their life choices.
  • We cannot keep up with the demand for ESOL tutoring.
  • We partner with BOCES to provide the residents of the county with help in reading, writing, English Speaking skills; to prepare for their GED or to enter the workforce.
